Intersport has been supporting Urbani tekači since 2006, and we are delighted that they have also supported our new challenge — organizing the running event on Brijuni.
History of running on Brijuni
The Brijuni Marathon was first organized in 2015 by Biseri Hrvatske under the guidance of Željko Konosić. Since then, Urbani tekači and our friends have gladly taken part every year, enjoying Brijuni to the fullest. We, Urbani tekači, have now taken on this pleasant yet responsible task of continuing the Brijuni running story. In 2025, we organized the Brijuni run for the first time.

History of Brijuni
Brijuni, a group of 14 islands off the western coast of Istria, have a rich history that stretches back more than 200 million years, when the islands were home to dinosaurs. Traces of their footprints can still be seen today on Veliki Brijun.
During the Roman period, the islands flourished. Remains of Roman villas and Byzantine fortifications testify to this vibrant past. In the Middle Ages, especially from the 14th to the 16th century, Brijuni became almost completely uninhabited due to the spread of malaria and pirate attacks.
The islands remained deserted until the 19th century, when Austro-Hungarian industrialist Paul Kupelwieser eradicated malaria and transformed Brijuni into an exclusive health resort.
During this period, villas, hotels, and lavish parks were built, raising the islands to elite-destination status.
After the Second World War, they became the preferred retreat of Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito, who hosted numerous world leaders and film stars there.
Today, Brijuni are a national park known for their unique nature, historical landmarks, and abundant wildlife. They remain a symbol of the harmony between history, culture, and natural beauty.
